Grown out of Opgaver.com
OrigoText is built by the team behind Opgaver.com, the Danish site where students have shared and read each other's papers for years. When that many papers gather in one place, the question arrives from the other side of the desk too: how does a teacher tell whether a paper was written by the student? OrigoText is the answer. Opgaver.com uses it itself, through the API.
What it does
The tool picks 10 to 15 sentences with concrete content from the paper and searches for each of them, verbatim, on the live web. When a sentence is found, the report shows where. That is the whole principle: a verbatim match cannot be argued with, and anyone can check it themselves.
What it does not do
It does not store the paper; it exists only in memory while the analysis runs. It does not judge. A finding is a place to look, and the judgement belongs to the teacher. The estimate of whether a text was written with an AI service is shown with a caveat and meant as a question, never an accusation.
The name
Origo is the origin of a coordinate system: the point everything is measured from. That is what a report should be for a teacher: a fixed point to start the conversation from.
